Title
Nave Looking West
Caption
Saxon nave with Early English arcades and aisles, looking west. In total, there are over 30 Saxon doorways, windows and other openings preserved in the church. The most interesting are those seen here in the west wall: the double triangular opening is said to represent the eyes of God; the small doorway was used to expose relics. The nave dates from the 7th century, but the openings may be from the 10th, when the west tower was added. St. Mary's Church, Deerhurst, Gloucestershire, England.
