Capital: Dancer with Lions

A dancer, who splits into two bodies from the torso down. He holds the back feet of two small lions who gnaw on his shoulders. The meaning of this strange image remains a mystery. Detail of Romanesque capital in the choir, mid-12th century. St-Pierre, Chauvigny, Poitou-Charentes, France.
