Ambo Detail (c.1110): Equestrian Scene

An equestrian scene, possibly representing the Flight into Egypt, on a spandrel of the marble ambo made in the early 12th century (some sources say 1110, others 1143) and reconstructed after the roof collapsed in 1196. The Lombard Romanesque sculptures illustrate the themes of sin and redemption. Sant'Ambrogio Basilica, Milan, Italy.
