Ambo from Northwest (c.1110)

North and west sides of marble ambo, made in the early 12th century (some sources say 1110, others 1143) and reconstructed after the roof collapsed in 1196. Only the north side of the balustrade, seen here covered with reliefs, survived the collapse. The inner base is an Early Christian sarcophagus dating from 385. Sant'Ambrogio Basilica, Milan, Italy.
