- Tympanum: Punishments of the Damned
- Caption
- Detail of the Last Judgment tympanum over the west door, sculpted by Gislebertus around 1130. To the right of the Weighing of Souls, a demon torments the damned as he pulls them into the Jaws of Hell. A woman on the left is receiving the standard punishment for lust, a snake grawing at her breast, while the demon spears her with a pitchfork. Next to her, three people are strung together by their necks. On the far right, divided from the horrific scene by a vine, an angel trumpets to awaken the dead. Along the bottom is a Latin inscription warning against the horrors of Hell.
