Capital: Liberation of St. Peter
Romanesque capital in the nave depicting the liberation of St. Peter from prison. On the main part of the capital (not shown here), he sits in a rather ornate prison with a rope around his neck and an angel appears to show the way out. On the right side of the capital (shown), a guard stands outside the cell with a key, showing that the door was locked the whole time. According to the biblical story, the guard was so amazed by the miracle that he converted.
