The Nativity of Christ (Luke 2:1-7; Matthew 1:25; Protevangelium of James 17:3-19:2; Isaiah 1:3). The two midwives are from the Protevangelium of James. Scene 14 of the capital frieze on the west portal (c.1150), also known as the Royal Portal, whose celebrated sculptures show the transition from Romanesque to Gothic. Chartres Cathedral, France.
