Title
Crypt: Carolingian Capital?
Caption
Ancient column and carved capital inside a masonry pillar at the east end of the crypt or lower church. These are thought by some to date from the Carolingian era and to have been reinforced when the upper church was built in the early 11th century. Saint-Martin-du-Canigou Abbey (c.1009), Roussillon, France.
