Baptism of Constantine

The Baptism of Constantine. Detail of painting in the Room of Constantine in the Vatican Museums (Musei Vaticani), painted 1517-24 by the school of Raphael based on drawings by the artist (who died in 1520). It illustrates the triumph of Christianity over paganism through four episodes in the life of Constantine the Great (306-37), the first Christian emperor: Vision of the Cross; Battle of Milvian Bridge; Baptism of Constantine; and Donation of Rome.
