Sarcophagus of Constantina or Helena

A peacock. Detail of 4th-century porphyry sarcophagus of Constantina or Helena, daughters of Emperor Constantine the Great (306-37). From the mausoleum of Santa Costanza outside the walls in Rome. Its reliefs show putti (cupids) harvesting grapes within vine medallions, accompanied by animals including peacocks. The Vatican Museums (Musei Vaticani).
