- Caption
-
View of the facade and campanile of San Giovanni Evangelista from the west. The basilica was built c.426-30 by Galla Placidia, in fulfillment of a vow. It was badly damaged by bombs in 1944 but rebuilt to its original form. The facade has an exceptionally high arched porch. The campanile dates from the 10th to 14th centuries.
