- Caption
- The Portal of St. Anne was installed around 1225 but its tympanum, upper lintel and some of the archivolts date from around 1150. Shown here are the left sides of the two lintels. The upper lintel (c. 1150-55) depicts scenes from the Infancy of Christ while the lower lintel (c. 1225) depicts stories pertaining to the marriages of Joachim and Anne (left, seen here) and Mary and Joseph (right). Anne is the Virgin Mary's mother, who is mentioned in early Christian stories but not in the Bible.
