Celtic cippus (funerary pillar) decorated with carvings, primarily horses. The horse played an important role in Celtic iconography because it was believed to conduct the dead into the afterlife. Limstone, from the oppidum of Caisses de Saint-Jean at Mouries (1897), 5th-4th century BC. The fragment was placed in the rampart of the oppidum in the 2nd century BC. Inv. FAN.92.00.2732.
