The illegitimate son of King Henry II and half brother of King John, Longespee was present at the laying of the foundation stones of the cathedral in 1220 and was the first person to be buried inside. The tomb is unusual for having a stone effigy and timber tomb-chest. The effigy was once brightly painted. Salisbury Cathedral, Salisbury, Wiltshire, England.
